Great Moments In Modern Choral Music, II

As a composer, I’m constantly in search of a simple, beautiful idea that I can transform and develop into a whole piece. I heard a great example of one of this from another composer featured at this fall’s Canadian Chamber Choir concert in Victoria. Matthew Emery‘s Sanctus uses treats the title word in a really elegant way that’s just fun to listen to. You can hear the CCC sing this below.

Emery is a Vancouver-based composer that I haven’t had the chance to meet yet, but I look forward to hearing what will come from him in the future! I’m also excited to say that both he and I have recently been listed as Featured Composers on the Association of Canadian Choral Communities’ Incanto Blog.
