I’d like to invite you to join me and Vox Humana Chamber Choir for a really unique concert under the stars next week! Why is it unique?
1) The choir will sing a newly commissioned piece of mine called The Heart of Night. The ink is barely dry on this one – I finished the score last week, just before moving to Vancouver! That makes this the world (galactic?) premiere.
2) The concert will be held at the NRC Centre of the Universe, also known as Victoria’s observatory. This is such a cool venue. I got to hear Vox’s concert here last year, and it was stunning! You get to sit inside the dome as it opens up to the night sky, which makes it kind of an indoor-outdoor concert hall. (Not the one in the photo above, that’s in Greenwich, England.)
3) This may be the last concert performed here. Due to budget cutbacks, the public interpretive centre is being shut down after this summer. This means that there will be fewer and fewer chances for the public to learn about the observatory, the science, and history of this place. It might be the last chance to go take a look inside…
